- Economic Opportunity: Boosts the aged care economy, potentially attracting investments, skilled jobs, and medical tourists to Malaysia's healthcare system.
- Public Awareness: Draws attention to the challenges in senior care and encourages youth to enter the field, fostering compassion and better systems.
- Industry Standards: Recognitions such as Eldercare Innovation Awards and B Corp certifications set benchmarks for high-quality, compassionate, and ethical eldercare services.

We invite you to be part of this meaningful celebration of progress, innovation, and excellence in the ageing industry.
3. Why Malaysia Needs Awards for Senior Care
Malaysia needs to establish caregiver awards, particularly under the Malaysia Care Economy Strategic Framework and Action Plan 2026–2030, to address the urgent need to professionalize, validate, and support the caregiving workforce amid rapid population aging.
As Malaysia moves toward becoming an aged nation by 2030, this recognition is crucial to shift the perception of care work from a voluntary “eldercare issue” to a skilled, respected, and essential career. In 2026, Malaysia places critical emphasis on recognizing caregivers through frameworks and awards to address a looming care crisis driven by population aging.
By 2030, 15% of Malaysians are projected to be aged 60 and above, requiring a transition from informal unpaid care to a professionalized care economy.
Key reasons for establishing the caregiver award initiative by MIRM in conjunction with MIRACE 2027 include:
- Professionalization and Recognition: The 2026–2030 plan elevates care work as a professional career with clear pathways, stronger job security, and professional recognition.
- Addressing Manpower Shortages: High demand for care services for children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) requires attracting more individuals to the field through recognition and rewards.
- Reducing the Care Gap Burden: A significant portion of unpaid care work, largely done by women, can be addressed by incentivizing and validating professional caregivers.
- Enhancing Care Quality: Recognition encourages higher standards in geriatric care, dementia support, and specialized services critical for the aging population.
- Recognizing Critical Contributions: Acknowledges the often under-reported efforts of formal organizations and informal or family caregivers.
- Encouraging Innovation and Best Practices: Awards motivate new service models, operational strategies, and practical eldercare solutions.
- Driving Investment: Showcasing success attracts private sector and philanthropic investment into senior living and aged care services.
- Raising Public Awareness: Highlights care economy challenges as Malaysia approaches 15% of the population aged 60+ by 2030.
- Fostering Community Support: Strengthens public engagement and broadens social participation in caring for older adults.
- Boosting Quality and Standards: Sets benchmarks for excellence and encourages comprehensive long-term care services.
- Supporting National Policy Goals: Aligns with Malaysia's national action plans to integrate aged care into the healthcare ecosystem.
The 2026–2030 framework also focuses on strengthening the overall care ecosystem, ensuring caregivers receive the protection and appreciation needed to sustain the growing silver care economy.
